When the call came from Newsweek for an assignment in rural Alaska, I was floored. I remember sitting on my host-family's porch in the Philippines as a Peace Corps Volunteer long ago devouring my weekly Newsweek. The publication was a large part of feeling connected to the world while living the isolated life of a PCV, and it was a fantastic experience to be able to shoot for them.
