I’ve known photographer Isaac Sterling since about 2012 or so. We met by chance - I was looking for photo assisting work and responded to a craigslist ad by Dove Shore. Isaac was Dove’s 1st assistant at the time, and I became Dove’s second for about a year. I 1st’d for Isaac, and he rapidly became my best/only friend in LA outside of my at-the-time-girlfriend’s friends.
Anyway, I moved back to Alaska and Isaac stuck around LA, where he’s alternated between some excellent freelancing work, and in-house work for brands like American Apparel and ModCloth. Isaac and his partner Mai found some practically-free tickets to Alaska and came for a quick adventure vacation.
Matanuska Glacier is one of my favorite spots in Alaska to show visitors. It’s a giant f***ing glacier that you can drive right up to, what’s not to love? Anyway, I bailed on my pile of editing for the day, and we spent a couple hours tromping around on the ice ogling at Alaska’s majesty and making the occasional photo. On film, of course. Because when two photographers get together, that’s what happens. Mamiya RZ67, Kodak Portra 400 and Tri-X.
