Being based in Alaska, I don’t get to shoot a lot of studio work. It makes sense, really. Most clients are hiring me to photograph something Alaskan that looks, well, Alaskan. But every once in a while, it’s nice. So when my friends at Sprocketheads asked me to shoot a model test for their niece, Deanna, I thought it’d be a great chance to set up a clean look. And hey, why not shoot some film we’re at it? The digital work came out nicely as well, but there’s no mystery there - film on the other hand… Well, let’s just say I don’t always know exactly what it’ll look like, and that usually leads me to being pleasantly surprised. Which is what happened here. Styling by my favorite cheerleading hype-girl, Tess Weaver @xotessweaver, who deserves all the credit for all the things, and who brings more gorgeous positive energy to set than anyone I can think of. And Deanna, of course is fantastic, and I’d jump at the chance to work with her again. If you’re a creative agency considering casting her, just do it. She’s a real-deal adventurer.
For my camera nerds out there, I shot this on Kodak Portra 400 and Ilford Delta 3200 (rated at 400) on my. Mamiya RZ67 Pro II. Developed at home using CineStill Cs41 chemistry, and camera scanned using Negative Lab Pro.
